So, you have been doing well this summer...great!
How are you going to keep up productivity in the fall? Chances are, you may be doing more mowing as the days cool off. Or you may be losing some of your seasonal crew due to college summer helpers.
Here are a few things to keep in mind as summer winds down.
- Take inventory of your equipment and make sure you replace damaged or broken items before you need them.
- For larger equipment, make sure to schedule some maintenance to ensure you avoid breakdowns and delays in projects.
- Check out important gear, such as cut resistant gloves and rain gear so you aren't waiting for backordered items.
- If you are losing workers in the fall due to crew members returning to college, consider marketing toward women. The green industry has traditionally been a male-dominated field, but over the years, more women have made this line of work viable careers.
- Think about services you can offer your existing customers. Providing them with a handy fall checklist for Fall Cleanup really lets them know that you care about keeping their business. Also, consider offering a special for those who sign up early to have your crew continue working on their property into the fall.
- Make sure you inspect and clean your tools before putting them away for the season! Make a list of what needs to be replaced and either order them now (so you won't have to next year), or put a reminder to stock up early next year.
